ZACK'S MANIFESTO: THE GHOST STEPS OUT

In 2018, my life changed forever.

I was the driver in a tragic accident in which a much loved man who lived on my street lost his life.

Nothing I write can undo what happened. That day changed the way I understood life, responsibility, freedom and control.

The consequences of the accident eventually led to my incarceration.

Going through the justice system showed me what it feels like to lose your freedom and control over your own life.

It also showed me what it means to live without privacy, with every movement watched and every decision made for you.

For a long time, that part of my life could have defined me.

I refused to let it.

Muay Thai became an important part of rebuilding myself. It gave me discipline, structure and something positive to work towards.

It didn't erase the past. Nothing could. But it gave me a way to move forward.

That is what post traumatic growth came to mean to me. Not pretending the past never happened, but refusing to let it decide the rest of my life.

Over time, I stopped defining myself only by the worst moment of my life. I started doing the work to rebuild my life.

As my own life changed, I became increasingly aware of how much control we all give away online without really thinking about it.

The modern internet runs on data.

Our movements are tracked.
Our habits are analysed.
